FAQ
Questions families ask us most.
In a 16-resident home with three care staff on duty during the day, staff genuinely know each resident — their history, preferences, and early signs that something is off. Days follow household rhythms instead of institutional schedules, and research has associated smaller residential settings with less agitation, better nutrition, and higher family satisfaction for people living with dementia.
Palmstone serves residents living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, from early through later stages. Our goal is for residents to stay with us as their needs change, including at the end of life with hospice support. Illinois limits the medical care an assisted living setting can provide. If a resident’s needs ever exceed those limits, we’ll work closely with your family on a plan. Every resident is assessed before move-in and whenever their condition changes.
As involved as you want to be. There are no visiting hours — families join for meals, holidays, gardening, and ordinary afternoons. We also communicate proactively about health, mood, and care changes, so you’re never guessing about how your loved one is doing.
Palmstone’s opening monthly rate is $11,000. It covers the private suite, 24/7 dementia care from our team, all meals, activities, housekeeping, and laundry, with no care-level surcharges as needs change. Medications, physician and therapy visits, hospice, and outside providers are billed separately by those providers.
Medicare does not cover long-term residential memory care, and Palmstone is a private-pay community. However, many families use long-term care insurance, VA Aid & Attendance benefits, or proceeds from a home to fund care. We’re happy to walk through the options during a consultation.
Because each home holds only 16 residents, availability is limited. We recommend joining the waitlist as soon as Palmstone feels like a fit — there’s no obligation or deposit, and it holds your place in line. Before move-in, every resident is assessed by a physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice nurse. We’ll stay in touch about timing and help you plan the transition when a suite opens.
Yes. Before we open, Palmstone will be licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health under the Assisted Living and Shared Housing Act. Our dementia care program will meet the state’s additional staffing, training, and safety requirements. We’ll share our license and our Alzheimer’s Special Care Disclosure with every family before move-in.
